Night Stretches Thin
Across my body
I used to enjoy these nights with you reading each other like our favourite books pulling at the covers to get a better look ever since your passing I trudge through the day with sleep as my only motivator when the time comes so does all my energy and I lie there knowing tomorrow will go the same way
streaks of passing light are the only signs of life in the spill of night I feel the world exhale leaving me with my thoughts neon humming like a quiet confession through the dark I trace old dreams in the ceiling’s shadow trying to make sense of the many lives I'll never touch I shouldn’t be awake but as the moon rises and the world slumbers my soul comes alive exchanging secrets with the stars night stretches thin across my body one long continuous hour during which I must remember to breathe somewhere between silence and heartbeat I birth words and images to cradle and soften the restless plains of my mind just as I begin to find ease morning arrives always too early

Please note:
sometimes when creating a collaborative poem, it ends up that even smaller fragments lead to a unified whole or that words and phrases call for further shaping and moulding. This is no reflection on the contributor. Instead, it’s a beautiful reminder that the creative process is always filled with twists and turns.
